Halloween goodies which AREN’T LOLLIES!
I’m always looking for ways to celebrate sweet occasions, like Halloween, without giving kids all the unnecessary sugar. I believe in ensuring kids never feel like they are ‘missing out’ but rather leading the way in a healthier approach to such occasions.
One of our favourite recipes to experiment with are our signature bities so it only felt fitting to base this Halloween recipes off them. These pumpkin flavoured bities are not only inspired by Halloween but loaded with seeds and nuts to help with the energy boost you need when 3.30itis hits.
INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup pumpkin purée
- 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
- 8 pitted dates
- 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
- 2 tbsp of any nut butter (we use homemade peanut butter)
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp pumpkin spice (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and allspice)
- 1/3 cup cacao nibs
METHOD
- Add dates, half of the oats and nut butter into a high speed food processor and combine until all the ingredients are finely chopped
- Pour the chopped ingredients into a mixing bowl then add the remaining ingredients and combine until a mixture is formed
- Roll into desired size balls (we use a heaped teaspoon for kid servings and a heaped tablespoon for adult servings)
- Refrigerate for 30 mins (or until they are firm) and store as you please (We like to store them snap-lock bags in the freezer so we can grab them on the go)
